Pepper Prices and Market Trends – December 23, 2024
The Vietnamese pepper market remains robust, with pepper prices holding steady at 144,500 – 145,300 VND/kg. Despite the typical year-end dip in demand, local prices are relatively high. Meanwhile, export prices are showing upward momentum, increasing by 100-200 USD/ton over the past week due to tightening global supply.
Domestic Market Highlights
Pepper prices across Vietnam’s key growing regions reflect stability:
- Gia Lai: 144,500 VND/kg
- Đắk Lắk & Bình Phước: 145,000 VND/kg
- Đắk Nông: 145,300 VND/kg
- Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu: 145,500 VND/kg
Though domestic prices experienced a slight dip of 500-1,000 VND/kg last week, analysts predict limited further declines due to dwindling stocks and delayed harvesting. The upcoming 2025 harvest is projected to yield lower volumes, attributed to prolonged drought conditions.
International Pepper Prices and Export Performance
In November 2024, Vietnam exported 15,863 tons of pepper, generating 106.4 million USD. While export volumes decreased by 13.9% month-on-month and 21.5% year-on-year, export revenue increased by 37.3% year-on-year, highlighting rising global pepper prices driven by limited supply.
Global Pepper Prices:
- Indonesia: Black pepper at 6,739 USD/ton, white pepper at 8,911 USD/ton
- Brazil: Black pepper ASTA 570 at 6,275 USD/ton
- Malaysia: Black pepper at 8,400 USD/ton, white pepper at 10,600 USD/ton
- Vietnam: Black pepper (500 g/l) at 6,400 USD/ton, white pepper at 9,600 USD/ton

Market Outlook for 2025
The combination of limited stock, delayed harvests, and reduced yields is likely to create supply shortages, driving prices higher in the first half of 2025. Additional trends to monitor include:
- Demand Variability: While the U.S. and EU markets remain strong, China and the Middle East are showing slower recovery.
- Geopolitical and Regulatory Challenges: Exporters face hurdles from global instability and stricter pesticide residue regulations.
- Evolving Consumer Preferences: Heightened demand for organic and sustainable products may offer opportunities but require adaptations in cultivation and processing.
With global demand for high-quality pepper rising, Vietnam’s strategic focus on sustainable farming practices and meeting international residue and environmental standards will be critical. The pepper market outlook remains optimistic, driven by tightening supplies and the potential rebound in key markets.
VietGlobal Export remains committed to delivering premium-quality pepper to international markets.
