As the turmeric harvest season begins in Pác Nặm, Bắc Kạn, the region bursts into hues of gold. “Turmeric requires minimal care and delivers higher yields compared to other crops,” said Bà Giang.

Similarly, ông Ma Văn Quang expressed his excitement over the favorable turmeric market:
“Two years ago, turmeric demand surged, and prices now range from 4,000 to 5,000 VND/kg. My family expects to harvest about four tons this year.”

 

Organic Certification Boosts Turmeric Value

Pác Nặm has taken significant strides in organic turmeric cultivation. Over 10 hectares in Thôm Mèo Village are now certified organic, providing high-quality raw materials for premium products like red and black sticky turmeric starch, turmeric honey capsules, dried turmeric slices, and powders. These products, especially Bắc Kạn’s premium turmeric starch, have gained recognition for their superior quality, earning a 4-star OCOP certification at the provincial level.

Expanding Turmeric Cultivation in Pác Nặm

In 2024, Pác Nặm cultivated 67.28 hectares of turmeric, primarily in communes like Xuân La, Cao Tân, Cổ Linh, and Nghiên Loan. The local Agriculture and Rural Development Office notes that turmeric is becoming a cornerstone crop, helping alleviate poverty and driving agricultural development in the region.
