The Art of Growing Fresh Ginger in Si Ma Cai

Growing ginger in Si Ma Cai requires minimal technical know-how or fertilizer. Farmers prioritize selecting quality seeds, planting on time, and keeping the fields weed-free. Typically, ginger is sown from January to February and harvested seven to eight months later, starting in late September and continuing through the end of the year.

From late September (Lunar Calendar), farmers in Si Ma Cai district start harvesting ginger.

In 2024, Si Ma Cai’s farmers planted ginger across 155 hectares, primarily in communes like Lùng Thẩn, Cán Cấu, and Sán Chải. The total fresh ginger yield is estimated at an impressive 3,255 tons, with an average of 21 tons per hectare.

Thanks to the suitable climate and soil, ginger grown in Si Ma Cai has excellent quality and uniformity.
