Vietnam’s cinnamon exports continue to thrive, with the country solidifying its position as the world’s leading exporter of high-quality cinnamon. In the first eight months of 2024, cinnamon exports from Vietnam reached a value of $177 million, reflecting the rising global demand for this aromatic spice in key markets, such as India, the United States, and Bangladesh.

Record-Breaking Cinnamon Export Figures
According to recent data from the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), Vietnam’s cinnamon exports in August alone generated nearly $23 million, totaling 8,186 tons. Cumulatively, the first eight months of 2024 saw cinnamon export volumes reach 62,918 tons, with a turnover of $177 million. This represents a 1.7% increase in volume compared to the same period last year, highlighting the strong and steady growth of Vietnam’s cinnamon exports.
India remains the largest market for Vietnamese cinnamon, importing 20,722 tons in 2024. Other major markets include the United States, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the UAE, each experiencing significant growth in cinnamon imports from Vietnam.
This demand for Vietnamese cinnamon reflects the global appreciation of its superior quality and distinct flavor, making it highly sought after in the global spice market.
Cinnamon Cultivation: Economic Impact and Sustainability
With approximately 180,000 hectares dedicated to cinnamon cultivation, this spice is a vital source of livelihood for hundreds of thousands of ethnic minority households in Vietnam’s remote and mountainous regions.

Vietnam is one of the world’s largest cinnamon-growing country, with an annual production capacity of 72,000 tons of cinnamon bark. The primary export markets for Vietnamese cinnamon include India, the U.S., Bangladesh, Brazil, and Indonesia—all of which have increased their imports of this premium spice over recent years.
